Do FMJ cover York and the surrounding villages?
Yes. FMJ welcomes plastering and decorating enquiries from York city centre, the suburbs and nearby communities including Haxby, Wigginton, Strensall, Dunnington, Bishopthorpe, Copmanthorpe and Poppleton. Send your full postcode so the location and scheduling can be confirmed.
Can the same team plaster and decorate the entire room?
Yes. FMJ can repair or rebuild the background, skim suitable walls and ceilings, allow for the correct drying stage and continue with painting, wallpaper or suitable woodwork finishes. The quotation will explain exactly which stages are included.
Can you work in an older York property?
Yes, subject to assessing the existing construction and condition. Older solid walls and traditional backgrounds do not always suit a standard modern gypsum system. If protected fabric or specialist conservation work is involved, appropriate advice and permissions may be needed before work proceeds.
Can a cracked or hollow wall simply be skimmed?
Not always. A skim coat is a finish, not a cure for movement, damp or plaster that has lost its bond. Local defects may be repairable, but recurring cracks or widespread hollow areas can require more investigation and preparation first.
What are the options for an Artex or textured ceiling?
Depending on its condition, a ceiling may be suitable for over-skimming or overboarding. Some older textured coatings can contain asbestos, so testing may be required before anything is scraped, sanded or otherwise disturbed.
Can you repair plaster after rewiring, plumbing or a kitchen installation?
Yes. FMJ can repair service chases, removed sockets, pipe alterations, fixing points and local access holes. Where the surrounding surface is inconsistent, a wider skim may be recommended to produce an even decorative finish.
Do you plaster extensions and newly altered rooms?
Yes. We can board and skim new walls and ceilings, repair the junctions with retained areas and finish studwork or media-wall features. Tell us which other trades are involved so the plastering and decorating can be placed correctly within the programme.
How long before new plaster can be painted?
There is no single fixed time because thickness, temperature, ventilation and humidity all affect drying. New plaster should become uniformly dry before the correct initial preparation and paint system are applied. FMJ will provide advice for the specific room.
Do you provide exterior painting in York?
FMJ can quote for suitable exterior walls, render and woodwork. The existing coating, access, repairs, weather and product requirements must be assessed first. Listed buildings and conservation areas can also involve additional restrictions.
What should I send for a York quotation?
Send wide photographs of every affected surface, close-ups of cracks or damage, approximate dimensions, your postcode and a short description of the result you want. Mention leaks, movement, previous repairs, planned building work, furniture and access. Use the contact form, call 07366 386621 or email enquiries@fmjplastering.co.uk.
